Whichever tour you choose your trip will be one of discovery; discovery of a people and a region well off the beaten track.
Accompanied by guides who wish to share their way of life with you, you will have the opportunity to appreciate their philosophy on life.
If you are interested in an authentic adventure here are several practical considerations to help you:
Practical Advice
| * |
Firstly, these types of tours are not for the faint hearted; they are for those of you
who are interested in an authentic adventure far from the modern world.
|
| * |
For others not so inclined - perhaps you should not come until the desire has truly gripped you!
|
| * |
Always be accompanied by the people of the desert; not only for your personal safety
but also to maximise your discovery and appreciation of the way of life.
|
| * |
Food and water:
food is always freshly prepared, bread cooked in the sand, delicious tajines,
and unlimited saharian sweet tea and seasonal fresh fruit are on offer,
as well as dried fruits. Water is of course indispensable, and we anticipate and
provide about three litres per person per day of bottled mineral water.
|
| * |
Equipment:
walking boots or shoes; a sleeping bag; casual outdoor leisure clothes;
a jumper and/or fleece in winter. The local head gear known as a cheche is
recommended and can be bought locally. A torch, a swiss army knife or similar,
matches, wet wipes, waste disposal bags, and don't forget a basic first aid kit and medicines.
|
Very Important!!
| * |
Respect the environment: don't leave any litter on leaving your camp and burn any rubbish.
|
| * |
Do not go off on your own without asking your guide.
|
| * |
Camels are companions, not just a means of transport; therefore treat them with respect.
Walk along side the caravan perhaps mounting the camel to rest from time to time.
|
| * |
Finally don't forget to admire the night sky; it is sublime. The stars are magnificent
and in the case of a full moon it is worth waking once or twice during the night to benefit.
